Allen Jackson: I live in Atlanta, but New Orleans was my home for two decades.The New Orleans area code is 504 and NOLA is known for the rich, dark, chicory coffee and for the willingness of its people to take time out to visit. I drink coffee. I am on a journey as a Christ-follower, husband, a father, grandfather, retired pastor, and sometimes professor. .My journey has included much joy, much grief, and much of watching God do amazing things. I retired in 2025 and each day, I await God's next assignment.

I started drinking coffee black when I was in junior high. It was a symbol of fellowship in my family. Till the day he died, if my father knew I was coming home from work, from college, or even from my home in a different state, he would say, "I will put on a pot of coffee." A cup of coffee with someone symbolizes community, conversation and a simple willingness to park an agenda for a few minutes to hear and be heard
